Art with Maria: Pastels of the desert
June 10, 1-3 pm
Learn about the desert landscape through the use of oil pastels through a workshop presented by local artist and educator, Maria Almeida Natividad.
Oil pastel is dry color pigment that is ground then mixed with oil and formed into sticks.
Traditional pastels have been used since the 16th century and became popular in the late 1800s with the French Impressionists.
Artists James McNeil Whistler, Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt and Henri de Toulous-Latrec used it extensively as a drawing medium.
This workshop will show examples of desert landscapes in oil pastels and a step-by-step demonstration on creating a desert landscape using oil pastels.
Desert designs will be available or participants can draw their own designs using the examples for reference.
All the materials will be provided for the participants to create their own unique desert landscape in oil pastels.
