8-12 yrs
July 10-July 13
Learning History Through Music with Carambola Community Music, 9 am-12 pm  
In this camp, we will create a space where the stories and cultures of our border region come to life through music. Through participatory, playful explorations of rhythm, song, social dancing and instruments, we will explore the building of communities across time. This camp is in collaboration with Carambola Community Music, a local community music group that teaches, preserves and celebrates the music, dance and art along the U.S./ Mexican border.

July 17-July 20
Folktales, Legends and Myths of El Paso, 9 am-12 pm
El Paso has a rich folklore tradition influenced by various peoples, histories and traditions. In this camp, we will discover the different folktales, legends and myths of El Paso through Readers Theater, activities, exhibits, and crafts. 

July 24-July 27
Missions, Trails and Conquests, 9 am-12 pm
What led to the growth of El Paso del Norte? Come explore the missions and trails that contributed to our region’s rich history and the growth of our city. Campers will learn about the effects on the region and its peoples from the Spanish conquests and the mission settlements by investigating the history of El Paso through the re-creation of their journey with maps, artifacts, and activities such as building missions out of adobe.

July 31-Aug. 3
The History of Inventions, 9 am-12 pm
Do you love to create and build? Do you want to help solve life’s problems? Do you want to put your designs in motion? Join us as we learn about past inventions and invent our own solutions to life’s quirks. This interactive camp is ideal for creative kids who want to learn how things work and put their ideas to the test. We will go over the history of inventions, simple machines, as well as recreate the tools that have helped us in everyday life.  

Aug. 7- Aug. 10
Acting Out, Playing and Learning your History with ImprovISA, 1-4 pm  
This camp will teach you the basic principles of theater and improvisation. All participants will create “small performances” where historic objects such as: photographs, artifacts, videos, and oral history, will be taken in action with the purpose of grasping knowledge and representing lifestyles of El Pasoans throughout time. This camp is in collaboration with ImprovISA, a local group whose mission is to empower communities to develop through improvisation and performance.

From Prisms to Film, 9 am-12 pm
Join Stephanie Vasquez, local photographer, is discovering the evolution of photography and film through hands-on activities and crafts.  Students will explore concepts such as light and moving images through experimenting with activities such as thaumatropes, zoetropes, and sunprints.  Students will also experiencing the use of different cameras and learning basic photography skills.  Please bring your own smartphone or tablet.

11-15 yrs

Storytelling Through Photography: Photography Basics, 1-4 pm
With local artist, Angie Salazar, explore how photography can tell a story.  Miss Angie will teach you photography basics using your own mobile device. Concepts such as composition, focus and exposure, and black/white and color will be taught. Please bring your own mobile device or tablet to camp.

Storytelling Through Photography: Capturing Moments, 1-4 pm
Join Angie Salazar, local artist, in exploring how photography can tell a story. Using your mobile device or tablet, you will learn concepts such as using subject matter and turning still photographs into works of art, as well as creating composites to tell your story.  Please bring your own mobile device or tablet to camp.  

July 31-Aug. 3
Storytelling Through Photography: Producing your Own Video, 1-4 pm
Join local artist, Angie Salazar, to explore how photography as well as videos can tell a story.  Using your mobile device, you will learn the basics of video production.  Students will be able to create and tell their own personal stories as well as historical ones.
